Science & Technology

Our city centre location affords us easy access to a range of visiting experts, workshops and exhibitions. We have close links with NUIG and a high percentage of our pupils attend their Centre for Talented Youth (CTY).

We allocate time to teaching STEAM subjects in our allocated STEAM room. STEAM stands for: Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths.

Pupils have access to our brand new Chromebooks and iPads on which they can practice coding, research, presentation etc. 3rd – 6th class pupils are set up with a Google Profile (firstnamesurname.student@saintpatricksgalway.ie). Here, they have access to Google Docs, Slides & Excel. It means project work started in school, can be continued at home by logging in with their login details.

We place great emphasis on participating with Science week every November. Indeed our school has been awarded the Discover Primary Science and Math Award on multiple occasions.

Finally we offer both Lego Club and Coding every week as part of our range of after school activities.

Internet Safety

The internet is a wonderful resource for both adults and children. We have information at our fingertips, translations with the click of a button and the ability to live chat with family members around the world.

As we all know, it is very important that we manage and monitor our children’s internet usage wisely. As parents and guardians, we must be up-to-date on the latest and most popular apps, chat rooms and technologies available to our children.

Pupils in St. Pat’s use the internet regularly at home and at school and are provided with opportunities to learn about internet safety and to practice in a regulated environment. Speakers also come into our school to share internet safety tips with our pupils.

The following website provides parents and guardians with a wealth of information on internet safety and usage, limiting screen time and learning how to monitor what our children are doing and who they are contacting online.

Webwise is the go-to website for information on Internet Safety for parents, guardians and teachers.  https://www.webwise.ie/
